Readers Can Win Prizes, with special programs like 4th Wall Theatre Workshop and more!
Expanding and developing youth literacy is a round-the-year-job, so the Ferndale Library is starting sign-ups for its first wintertime reading program, on Mon, Nov 21. Ferndale’s Youth Services Librarians received a record number of participants during their Summer Reading 2016 program, so now they’re encouraging kids of all ages up to 12th grade to take advantage of their time away from school work during upcoming winter breaks to have some fun with recreational reading.
Library Reading Programs have been shown to effectively boost literacy and broaden young readers’ vocabularies. So the Ferndale Library invites kids to take their Winter Reading Challenge. Running Dec 1 — Dec 30, the FADL Winter Reading Challenge requires 15 minutes worth of reading for at least 15 days of the month. Librarians will provide each young reader with a fun, interactive log to color in for each reading session. When fully completed logs are turned in during the last week of December, kids/teens can receive a FREE Chipotle gift-card OR a FREE book (their choice).
The FADL Winter Reading Challenge culminates with three days of special programing during Ferndale Schools’ winter break: Wed., Dec 28 — Fri., Dec 30.
Wed., Dec. 28, at 2pm: That’s Your Cue!! Kids Interactive Performance Workshop presented by 4th Wall Theater Group (8 and up)
Thurs., Dec. 29 at 2 pm: Full STEAM Ahead! Hands-on exploration stations (5 and up)
Fri., Dec.30 at 2pm: Afternoon-Year’s-Eve. A matinee ball for kids to countdown to 2017 (3 and up)
Registration (sign-up) is required; kids can sign-up starting Nov. 21 (thru December).
