Ferndale Library’s Summer Reading Kicks Off June 18 at Garbutt Park

On Your Mark, Get Set… Read! Exercise Your Mind All Summer Long

Picture1An all-ages Fun Run kicks off Ferndale Library’s Summer Reading programming at Garbutt Park on Sat., Jun. 18 at 2 pm, encouraging readers of all ages to exercise their minds. The theme for 2016 is On Your Mark, Get Set… READ, and the series of scheduled programming is open to children 0-18 and all adults. Runners will loop around the park up to four times (1 mile) and end with healthy refreshments, provided by the Friends of the Ferndale Library.

Sign up for summer reading, enjoy the outdoors, and even check out the large Bounce House! Participants will have a chance to earn prizes all summer by reading and completing library related tasks.  Prizes include a star on our All-Star Reader Wall, a new book and carrying bag, and gift certificates for Chipotle and Jersey Mike’s!

“The goal for our summer reading programming is to elude summer learning loss between school years,” said Ashley Lehman, Head Librarian for FADL’s Youth Services. “But we also strive to provide entertaining programs as well. This years theme of mind and body wellness and our schedule of programming encourages learning through games and activities, and continuous engagement throughout the year, and not just when school is in session.”

Kickoff (1)

The summer reading program will run Jun. 18-Jul. 30, with a finale pool party taking place on Aug. 13. New in 2016, the grand prize will be a free pool party for all finishers and their families at the Oak Park Pool.  Sign up starts Jun. 18; visit the FADL Kids Corner for more information. facebook.com/ferndalekids
