Book Vs. Movie (an FPL Throwdown)

mockingjOkay, so… you’ve probably seen Mockingjay Part I by now… That’s a filmic realization of one half of Suzanne Collins’ book, the third part in the Hunger Games trilogy.

What did you think?

giverSoon, we’ll see Lois Lowry’s modern classic, the beloved The Giver brought to the screen with Jeff Bridges and Meryll Streep.

It’s a decades’ old debate
Wasn’t the book BETTER than the movie?
Can an adapted movie EVER be as good as– or even BETTER than its original book?
Is the screenwriter better than the author? Is the director better than the author? Did the Hollywood actors resemble the characters you’d envisioned in your head when you were first reading the book?

Our Youth Librarians in the Kids Corner have a new book-club idea. Read the book – then watch the movie. Parents interested in getting their teens/tweens involved in these literary/cinematic debates should stop by the Kids Corner desk for more information.
