We get by with a lotta help from our FRIENDS
This is the ideal way to give back to your library… You can show your support for the library in a much more fulfilling way when you volunteer as a Friend of the Library.
National Friends Of The Library Week is sponsored by United for Librarie, a division of the American Library Association, promoting groups like FPL’s Friends, who advocate, and fundraise for libraries.
The Friends Of The Ferndale Library provide the ideal volunteer work opportunities for anyone eager to share their enthusiasm for books, music, arts and culture.
Have you ever considered joining? Have you ever considered how much fun it could be? I mean, considering how inherently cool (in my not so humble opinion) this library is?
This week, Oct. 19 – 25, is National Friends Of The Library Week and FPL is saluting their supportive efforts while also encouraging others to consider joining.
As former Friends President Kevin Deegan-Krause sees it, this special community of volunteers are like the beating heart of our community’s beloved Library. “FPL’s Friends raise money for children’s Summer Reading programs, the Lucky Day collection, and they run book groups, organize parties and provide staff for library events,” Deegan-Krause said. “We all benefit from their generous donations of time and talent.”
Current Friends President Kelly Farah joined not only because she’s a professed “library geek,” but because she wanted to assure the library continues serving as both a vital resource center and as the community’s town square. “Plus, I’ve met amazing people and participated in some really fun events. We might be the coolest Friends organization in the state!” The Friends’ support helps reinforce this sacred institution, here to provide life-long learning and enrichment to the community.
