The American Library Association honors books, videos, and other outstanding materials for children and teens. The ALA Youth Media Awards, select the best materials for youth (from committees composed of librarians and other literature/media experts) encouraging original and creative work in the field of children’s and young adult literature and media with prestigious awards such as the Newbery award.
In our Kids Corner, we have an event called: Fernbery – a program for students from Ferndale Middle School to participate in by reading title-candidates for the Newbery Medal. On January 28th, we’ll have teen readers gather to watch a live webcast of the ALA Youth Media Awards to hear what book will win the Newbery Medal. Students will also vote on the book they liked the most based on a list of possible Newbery hopefuls.
