The American Library Association’s annual conference wrapped up last week in Chicago. One notable program: “The Promise of Libraries Transforming Communities” yielded some inspiring thoughts, challenges and potential: “…Librarians need to move outside the library and encourage people to meet and discuss what concerns them…” –Reported American Libraries Magazine. Quoting Richard C. Hardwood, (founder/President of the Hardwood Institute for Public Innovation: “We cannot become captives of our building. You work as much in the community as in your building.”
