INFO ON THE BLOWOUT -from a recently published article in the Ferndale Friends

info: http://blowout.metrotimes.com/

Michigan’s preeminent local Music Festival is coming to Ferndale next month. The Metro Times Blowout started more than 15 years ago, long famed for being the largest all-local multi-day showcasing of musical talent in the country, and has always been hosted exclusively in Hamtramck.

Until now. The first weekend of May brings the Blowout to the streets (and stores, bars, restaurants) of Ferndale. Whereas before, a dozen or more Hamtramck venues (bars, community centers and storefronts) helped feature four nights worth of varying line- ups with upwards to 200 bands, now the big event is expanding for the first time to two weekends and two cities.

…Now, for those Ferndalians who don’t normally spend their weekends rocking out downtown, who haven’t ever been to “a Blowout” before or who might think this is just another big blustery gathering that will just keep us up late or clog traffic, consider that this is an opportunity for Ferndale’s finest to shine, a chance to see your neighbors in a new light, a chance to strike the revelation that your new favorite band has been “living in your backyard” for years without you even knowing it.

Blowout-2013 kicks off in Detroit on Thursday, April 25th with a blistering night packed with bands bustling through shortened sets, scattered onto three stages inside the Magic Stick (next door to the Majestic Theatre). The next two nights are hosted in Hamtramck, with full line-up/schedule available at: blowout.metrotimes.com Ferndale – Thursday, May 2nd, Friday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 4th

The Blowout means:
three consecutive evenings (May 2nd, 3rd 4th) with local music featured in our Community Room (starting a little after 8:30 p.m.) The schedule and line-ups were yet to be solidified at press time, but you can find more info at our website.

Blowout attendees can purchase special Wristbands for various dates granting all-access to each venue. Blowout is open to adults 18 years and older. Most local host-venuesfor Blowout, though, will be bars.

The library, thus, will be selling beer to of-age attendees, with funds raised towards The Friends of the Ferndale Library non-profit’s continuing support of our very popular programming (including Ferndale Reads, First Stop Friday, art exhibits, children’s story time and bookclubs).
