PPT Update (re: Public Libraries)

Municipalities will be reimbursed for some of their lost income, though, and lawmakers added several safeguards Thursday night that seek to ensure the PPT won’t be eliminated without cushioning local governments’ revenue….

The Lansing State Journal reports ^ on legislation that concerns revenues for city services (police, fire, your local library and many others…)

During the course of revisions, municipalities gained at least one provision they’d asked for: The reform package is dependent upon the success of an August 2014 statewide vote, when Michigan residents will weigh in on whether the state’s use tax revenue should be used to help reimburse local governments for their lost PPT dollars.
