Notables: Miss Anything This Year?

Turns out I’m half-way through reading what turned out to be the First Winner of:The Guardian home‘s First Book Award! – a novel inspired by the experiences of Kevin Powers, author and veteran,  during his time as a gunner in Iraq.

YELLOW BIRDSThe Guardian(UK) book site commended Powers visceral debut for its show of  ‘extraordinary promise.’ Get to know this book -which, for my part, is shaping up to likely be my own favorite release of 2012 -from GoodReads…

 

 

Reading further into this year’s “notable books…”

The New York Times Sunday Book Review listed The year’s notable fiction, poetry and nonfiction, selected by the editors of The New York Times Book Review.

Some surprises but some certainly-expected citations above^ -but, still, a good list to catch-up on for End-of-the-Year readers curious of what they’ve missed…

 

Christmas at Eagle PondNPR’s Book Site, meanwhile, is looking forward to the season ahead –

Alan Cheuse considers lyrical impulse and the narrative impulse as he compiles The Season’s Best -for a Wintry Mix.
