Happy “Poem In Your Pocket–Day” –
That’s right!… In case you didn’t know or care – today’s the day you might like to share… Your favorite poem, while there’s time, to close out the month for verse and rhyme. April is…(was?) National Poetry Month. And this day, as NPR’s Book site reports, is set aside for transporting your particular favorite (or current favorite) poem inside your pocket – so that you can readily share it at a moment’s notice.
Also – the National Endowment for the Arts announced 21 new grants —the Detroit Free Press reports: Michigan arts organizations land $1.5 million in NEA grants — Including literary-leaning projects like:
• Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti: awarded for Open Book workshop and exhibit catalog related experimental book design and formats (pictured)
• InsideOut Literary Arts Project, Detroit -awarded for “Expanded Voices, a high school literary program.”
Michigan’s Night for Notables is this Saturday – as the Detroit News reports: State honors books telling Michigan stories– The Library of Michigan (out in Lansing) will host a ceremony honoring its 2012 roster of Notable Michigan Books, including the newer-autobiography of filmmaker Michael Moore and Jim Harrison’s latest poetry collection “”Songs of Unreason”
