“First Stop” and Teen Tech Week

I can’t believe it’s March already… even the extra day of February doesn’t lessen the shock…

It’s going to be a busy month around here…Have you picked up your own (free) copy of The Local News (or, for Tween-readers Eleven) –the featured title(s) in our Ferndale Reads community-wide book club series of events?

But it’s going to be an even busier week -set aside all that Ferndale Reads-stuff… Because it’s TEEN TECH WEEK! March 4 – March 10 –
–this is a national initiative sponsored by YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults, to help ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks, and videogames. (More info from Teen Tech Week’s main site).

This year’s theme is “Geek-Out!” – Geek Out @ Your Library for Teen Tech Week (March 4-10).

Saturday March 10 at FPL – 12:00pm until 1:30pm  –Joel Tacey brings Gamefest to the library to help us celebrate. What’s Gamefest? It’s a video game party…and you’re invited! Guitar Hero, RockBand, DanceDanceRevolution, and SuperSmash Brothers. Are you ready to geek out?

Open to teens (grades 9-12) only. No registration required. – More info from our Teen Spot page.

Here’s a testament to FPL’s support of local music – Circulation Specialist/Programmer Kelly Bennett just updated our collection list – 233 artists, to date! (View).

And, just like every -first-friday of the month, we’re hosting live local music inside our community room. Friday, March 2nd, at 6:30 pm – FPL’s First Stop features Bastrion and Elemental  -music starts around 7pm, free…
