Grand Avenue– by Steve Breen and Mike Thompson

I, (your humble Observer scribe), am going to slide into a wee bit of a vacation – so the posts may be slim over the next week… (Disclaimer, I am not similarly afflicted as the grandmother above^… Nay, I have other books to finish… Plus, I must admit that I find the mere magnitude of books published under Patterson’s name is a bit leery, but that’s just me)…

So then – why not indulge yourself with a StayCation – and stop by the library to find yourself one last great book to read before summer ends…

Here’s a few things to look out for in the coming month:
Our ‘Summer Reading Final Party: Carnival!’ for Kids & Tweens is August 13th (the same day as the Green Cruise, I might add…so make sure you either bike or walk your way over to us…)
By the way!!~~What did you think of our summer reading program, this year?

(For the LGBT Community) – Queer for Books – Book Club – meets on a different day (than previously scheduled) – in fact, they will now be regularly meeting on the first Tuesday of the month – James Baldwin’s Go Tell It On The Mountain will be discussed on September 6th, in our East Community Room (7pm) ~

In some light book news: The movie adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s The Help is coming to theaters this Wednesday – the Detroit Free Press ran this insightful feature: ‘The Help’ shines a light on domestic workers

Meanwhile, Time Magazine’s Harry McCracken explores new e-reader apps that make the user’s experince, well, that much more, readable – like Instapaper. “Instapaper allows you to easily save them for later, when you do have time, so you don’t just forget about them or skim through them…”

~~What was President Obama reading during that exasperating, disconcerting debt deal over the last week? Turns out, according to Time’s political reporter/columnist Joe Klein – it was Nixonland: the rise of a president and the fracturing of America~~ Fracturing indeed – the National Journal reported earlier this year that this Congress – or at least it was found “more polarized last year than in any other year since National Journal began compiling its vote ratings”

Obama was also watching the 1976 film Network – which is fitting, since I’m sure many of us are feeling “…mad as hell…”

~~For that matter^, -What’s on Michelle Bachman’s reading list? (eek) – find out from TIME

~~~The only other thing I could pester you about: –would be to remind you to pick up your copy of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Douglas Adams) – as it will be featured for September’s Book Party at the Emory! Stay tuned.
For now… So long, and thanks for all the fish.
