Hear Ye, Hear Ye!
The Ferndale Public Library is hosting a Community Reads Event! We’re encouraging our patrons to pick up a free copy of The Book of Lost Things and participate in our literary events around town – through the month of March. Book discussions, improv comedy, movie nights and a visit from the author, John Connolly (all the way from Ireland!)
The Book of Lost Things follows 12-year-old David, bemused by the onset of World War II from his home inside a craggy manor outside of London, bereaved of his birth mother and now begrudging towards his new stepmother (and newborn stepbrother) and likely a bit bitter towards his constantly-busy father.
Luckily, David has his books – his therapy, his refuge, his release. He nestles deeper into an even larger (and curious) trove of books once he moves into his stepmother’s manor. But soon, the books start whispering to David, via the myriad characters’ voices from within the pages, that things start getting interesting…leading to the opening of an alternate world filled with longlost imaginative imprints, from Goldilocks, to Snow White, to Rumpelstiltskin to an even more fantastic and horrific breed of creatures…
In that spirit…we, your humble library staff, have been putting together our own silly sketches (or fractured fairy tales) to get us all in the spirit of things…
Our premise… if Rumpelstiltskin was thwarted by social networking…
