“Please join us in honoring Ms. Trenner on the occasion of her retirement after 30 years of caring for and nurturing the children of Ferndale…” – Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1:00pm in the community/meeting room of the Ferndale Public Library.
A message from our outgoing director, Dr. Doug Raber, regarding changes in our library’s children’s room.
“Endings and beginnings always bring a mix of sadness and joy. After 30 years of serving the people of Ferndale and delighting their children with stories, games, and Summer Reading Clubs that will be long remembered, Mary Trenner has retired.”
“We welcome everyone to stop by the Library on Saturday February 26, from 1:00 to 3:00pm to wish Mary the best. If you’re a grown up now but want to thank Mary for showing you the joy of reading, then stop by and say hello.”
This week, Raber said, also leads to a new beginning.
“We have a new Youth Services Librarian we’d like you to stop by and meet. Jillean McCommons started with us this month and she already has exciting plans for Children’s Services. Jillean received a B.A. in English from Michigan State University and a M.S. in Information from the University of Michigan. She worked in the youth departments at Ann Arbor District Library, Monterey Public Library and most recently at Canton Public Library.”
From Jillean: “I’m thrilled to work for Ferndale Public Library. I’m already having such a great time with staff that I can’t wait to meet the rest of the community when we open on Monday.”
Regarding storytime, Jillian said, “You can expect music, puppetry, movement, fun stories and a lot of laughter.” Jillean is joined by Emily Trousdale, Assistant Children’s Librarian, who also works at Royal Oak Public Library.
