9 – 3- 10 – @ the Ferndale Public Library – it’s the inaugeral First Stop Friday – a monthly after-hours local music showcase, designed to be the first stop of music lovers’ jam-packed weekends. Each month will feature two bands playing in the library’s multi-purpose room.
Troy / Bloomfield Hills – on more somber/sobering notes, the recent recession continues to take its toll on Public Libraries. The Detroit Free Press recently reported on a handful of SE-MI communities facing shuttering or closures altogether of their library services.
In perspective, it was a millage compassionately supported by Ferndale residents that spurred us onto complete our newly renovated facilities. The news article above touches on the need (for, and, in some cases, lack-thereof) of a community’s support playing a role in the future of its library.
Times are tough.
In lighter news – Royal Oak Township has benefitted from federal grant money awarded to Michigan State University specifically for computer upgrades to libraries in south and central Michigan. The library will add 8 new computer work-stations. Find info at Royal Oak Township’s library web site and info here on MSU’s broadband coverage grant.
